Apple is continuing its transition to supporting exclusively 64-bit apps with updated releases of its video editing software.
Version 10.4.6 of
Final Cut Pro X and 10.1.11 of
iMovie have been released to the public. These updates fix bugs such as resizing the interface causing the workflow extension button to disappear, but also a more major point.
The patch notes for each app mention the following important bullet point:
• Detects media files that may be incompatible with future versions of macOS after Mojave and converts them to a compatible format
This falls in line with Apple's plan to discontinue supporting 32-bit apps running on
macOS on the version release following 10.14 Mojave. Support for automatic conversion to 64-bit formatting futureproofs this content so it can still be edited and played back in the next version update for macOS.
